Folk Club - 6th January 2018

The Copper Family of Rottingdean in Sussex sing the songs their family has loved and preserved for at least seven generations - songs of farming, sailing, love, drink, war, sport, drama and comedy. They use the vocal harmonies handed down through the generations as well. Bob Lewis is an authentic Sussex traditional singer with a beautiful singing style and an unusual repertoire. Both Bob and the Coppers are as Sussex as chalk paths, flint walls and Harveys beer.

The evening we celebrate the launch of a new CD, 'Two Bobs' Worth,' of Bob Lewis and Bob Copper singing at a Sussex folk club in 1999. The CD is available from Rod Stradling's Musical Traditions site at http://www.mtrecords.co.uk/index2.htm, and Christmas is coming. January 6th. 2018 would have been Bob Copper's 103rd. birthday. Bob and The Coppers are donating proceeds from the CD to the excellent charity Sussex Traditions.

Bob and The Coppers will give us two one-hour spots and the rest of the evening is filled by members of the audience performing a song or tune if they wish. We are starting early, at 7.30 p.m. Doors will open at 7.00 p.m.

Everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in.
